A combination of his first name initial (D) and his last name (Tall) joined with a passion for music throughout his life is precisely who D.Tall is as a Hip-Hop Artist, Producer and Songwriter. As an inner city kid originally from Dayton, Ohio with dreams of making it to a bigger stage and platform, D.Tall moved to Dallas, TX at a young age where he found a new home in a developing music market.
He grew up rapping and producing in the Midwest but didn’t pick up any significant steam until the release of his first mixtape “On my way” in where he began to gain notoriety and garner a regional buzz. D.Tall started getting rotation in clubs and radio play from his 2011 single “Close to you” where he enticed the ladies over a catchy beat with a throwback chorus inspired by Maxi Priest’s hit single “Close to you” from the 90’s. He began to pop up on the Mediabase/BDS charts and scratch the surface of the Billboard charts which started to catch the attention of record labels. However, he was adamant about taking an independent approach to forever changing music industry like Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
Early 2012 D.Tall released his mixtape “BlueSkies Yellowtape” where he opened up about insecurities and took a more personal approach than previously in his music. It was also the first project that he executive produced along with writing mostly all of the material. While promoting on the West coast in 2014 he collaborated with Bay Area Rapper E-40 on a single “Dem Heels” which was the first single for D.Tall that received radio play on a National level. Atlanta rapper WakaFlocka later joined in on the remix of the single in 2015. “Dem Heels” was the first single off of his debut studio album “Real Real” which sold Nearly 5,000 copies digitally alone.
D.Tall has continued to put out singles over the past few years while continuing to produce for other artist and pursue other business endeavors. He’s continued to have the same entrepreneur mindset that denied record labels starting a thriving social media marketing firm in 2016. Radio Host/DJ Beto Perez from 95.7 Kissfm caught up with D.Tall in April of 2016. Perez asked D.Tall when we could expect new project and evidently an EP titled “As I Go” which features a major collaboration as its first single is set to release summer 2016.
